Fears
As I’m walking into the wilderness in a place known as the grizzly bear country, I can’t stop but worrying about the unexpected encounter of a brown bear, a grizzly or a cougar. I grew up in the south east of France, where none of these threats exist. At least not in any of the most popular and accessible hikes that surround my home town. The fears that harassed me during this “escapade” were out of control, they felt inhibiting. They prevented me from enjoying the freedom of being away from work and from family duties. They also revealed a terrible truth about the way I sometime perceive my life: a path surrounded by threats and uncertainty. During that specific trail, I did however realize how worthless and consuming these worries were.
What if we could change the way we experience uncertainty? What if we could concentrate on the present moment, that specific moment where our body is healthy, engaged and alert. What if, despite the potential risks that our personal journey will force us to take, we could believe in our strengths and ability to confidently move on? If we could take each moment as a treat and not threat, a treat that nourishes a deeper understanding of who we are, what will our life feel like? Would this alternate our ability to cope and appreciate life? I decided to give it try. Let’s keep exploring with peace in mind what life will bring our way.
